Breast augmentation surgery is improvising with newer incision techniques, better implants and methods to ensure no complication after surgery. A lot of debate has been going on as to what type of implants should be used in breast enlargement surgery.
Saline Implants
A large majority of women who had saline breast implants had to undergo through a re-operation. The saline implants are known to wrinkle and bend a lot easily as compared to the silicone or gel implants. Another negative feedback given by women about saline implants is that they do not have a natural breast feeling with them.
Silicone Implants
Silicone implants pose a lot of health risks and are therefore not used in breast enlargement surgery. The biggest risk of silicone implants is they can rupture. There can be leakages and for that matter women might have to have regular MRI scans to ensure its integrity. The silicone implants were first authorized in the year 1962 and were banned after 30 years because of serious health risks. Most women who had silicone implants had to have a second breast augmentation surgery due to implant rupture as well as health other serious health issues.
Gel Implants
A new brand of breast implant being recently introduced is the Gel Implant. There is an extensive cross linking of the material used that makes the outer surface of the implant very strong. If the outer surface is cut, nothing leaks out and above all, the shape of the implant is not distorted.
Women who have received Gel Implants are more satisfied with the results and there have been no cases that required re-operation due to ruptured implants.
This implant is not ideal in women who require an extensive level of breast reconstruction. The complications related to breast augmentation surgery includes s bleeding, side effects of anesthesia, and infection.
This implant is still in the trial phase and is available to only those women who enroll themselves in the trial.
